What is CodeMux?
CodeMux is a multi-model AI coding agent for VS Code. It routes planning, coding, and review across GPT, Claude, DeepSeek, Grok, and Gemini, then shows you the changes, the checks, and the cost.
Product and availability
CodeMux is a proprietary extension for Visual Studio Code 1.93 or later. Install it from the Visual Studio Marketplace. The extension works with a hosted service for managed model access.
What a task can include
A task can read your repository for context, route each step to a suitable model, edit an explicit set of files, and run your checks. Independent parts of a task can run in parallel when they don’t depend on each other or touch the same files. See how it works and supported models and providers.
What verification means
CodeMux shows the changes it made alongside the checks it ran, including anything it could not verify. A completed task is not a guarantee that the code is correct. Review the changes and any remaining checks before accepting the work.
Language support
CodeMux edits workspace text through one tool loop. Hover, format, organize imports, rename, and code actions come from the language service already installed in VS Code. TypeScript and JavaScript use the built-in TypeScript language service. Python and Go use the corresponding editor extension when it is present; without it, those language-server tools are unavailable and the agent can still read, edit, and run local checks such as npm test, pytest, and go test. Java and C# files can be edited, but they are not a claimed, fixture-backed language. CodeMux does not prove static module graphs or fail closed on unsupported import shapes.
Installation and model usage
The extension is free to install. Managed models use a pay-as-you-go balance with no subscription in the current offer. Compatible user APIs are billed by the provider separately. See pricing and billing details.
